Create a strategy

Updated Oct 27, 2026

Create a strategy when you want several collections to share the same product ordering setup. The app calls these Collection strategies when Ultimate Collection Manager is also installed, and Sorting strategies in a Collection Sort & Manage-only store. See Merchandising strategies for the ready-made options and how strategies work.

  1. Open Merchandising → Collection strategies or Merchandising → Sorting strategies, then select Create strategy.
  2. Enter a Name. Add a Description so you can tell when to use the strategy in the list.
  3. If you also use Ultimate Collection Manager, decide whether to turn on Membership. Choose Smart and a saved product target filter, or choose Segment and saved segments. Set the Product limit for products added to a collection. Leave Membership off if each collection should keep its own products. Shopify rule-based collections keep their own products.
  4. Under Ordering, choose a Sort order for products that are not claimed by a segment. Set the direction or lookback period when that sort offers them. You can also open Advanced inventory options to change which locations count and the minimum stock increase for inventory date sorts.
  5. Under Segments, configure the built-in Push featured, Push up and Push down rows as needed. See Push products up and down for those settings. Add saved segments if available. Products that no segment claims follow All remaining products and the sort order from step 4.
  6. Under Product groups, add any saved groups you want to keep together in the sorted collection. See Product groups for how they affect the final order.
  7. Check the Summary. Select Default for unconfigured collections if this should be the default strategy, then select Create strategy.

Creating the strategy saves its settings. See Assign a strategy to collections to use it with one or several collections. When you later edit the strategy, linked collections pick up the changes on their next sorting run.
