Choose products for a stock alert

Updated Oct 26, 2026

Targeting chooses the products an alert watches. The alert's Action mode then checks those products for its stock condition. For example, a low-stock alert targeted to a summer collection reports only low-stock products in that selection.

Open an alert under Stock operations → Alerts and go to Targeting. Choose one of these modes:

Targeting mode What it watches
All products Every product in the store. The alert condition decides which ones match.
Smart Products matched by a saved product or variant filter. Choose a filter from the list.
Manual Products you select from the product picker.
Upload product list Products identified by Product IDs, or parent products of variants identified by Variant IDs or SKUs, in a CSV or Excel file.

With a variant filter or list, any matching variant selects its parent product. The alert condition then checks that product; it is not limited to the variant that selected it.

The modes offered can depend on the alert condition and whether product data is ready. If a mode is unavailable, check the explanation shown in the form. Changing modes clears the previous selection, so review the new target before saving.

Check the selection

With Only matching products off, the table previews the products your targeting choice covers. Turn it on to see which of those products currently meet the alert condition. If you need to change targeting while editing an alert, turn Only matching products off first.

After changing the condition or selection, use Check matches when the form offers it. For a changed Manual or Upload product list selection, save the alert before checking matches. Then review the result and save any remaining changes.
